The Midwest League revealed their post-season honors on Tuesday. Gorkys Hernandez, James Skelton, and Manager Tom Brookens were all honored.
Gorkys Hernandez was named Midwest League Most Valuable Player. He is the first Whitecap to win the award since Robert Fick won it in 1997.
Tom Brookens was named Midwest League Manager of the Year.
Catcher James Skelton was named to the MWL post-season All-Star Team.
In case you missed it, starting pitcher Matt O'Brien made a spot start for the AAA Toledo Mud Hens on Thursday night. Toledo won 6-2. Matt was the winning pitcher as well. He pitched 6 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and struck out 3 batters.
Last night pitcher Jeff Gerbe made a spot start for the AA Erie SeaWolves. Jeff started game one of the doubleheader. Erie lost the seven inning game, 6-0. Gerbe pitched 6 innings, allowed 2 hits, 4 earned runs, 5 walks, a 2-run homer, and struck out a batter.
Guillermo Moscoso's start last night for West Michigan was the result of Gerbe pitching for Erie last night. Moscoso had been previously pitching for the Short Season A Oneonta Tigers. On July 15 he pitched a perfect game for the O-Tigers.
