April 16, 2007 was a day in which tragedy struck close to home for many people across the country, when a 32 students were killed at Virginia Tech. Detroit Tiger fans on the Motownsports.com community were among those who lost a loved one. Brian Bluhm was a Tigers fan through and through, and the news of his death shocked the close-knit online community.
In an effort to help preserve Brian's memory, members of the community began to donate money with the intent of forming some sort of memorial to Brian. Over 160 people donated nearly $6,000, and memorial plans were sought.
Contact was made with the West Michigan Whitecaps, to see if something could be done at Fifth Third Ballpark in Brian's memory. Brian was always a fan of following the young prospects of the Tigers that played for the Whitecaps, so it was felt a memorial at the ballpark would be fitting. The Whitecaps were very happy to work with members from the Motownsports community, and using some of the money raised from donations, a memorial plaque was purchased.
On Thursday, November 15, at 2:00 p.m. the memorial plaque will be dedicated and unveiled. The ceremony will take place on the main concourse outside of the ballpark, up in front of the ticket windows. Anybody is welcome to come to this event.
