Pedro Cotto Q&A

Pedro Cotto was a jack of all trades for the 2006 Midwest League champion Whitecaps. Seeing time at a number of infield and outfield positions, he finished the season with a .278 batting average, with 34 RBI, and 19 doubles. Cotto split time between Lakeland and Erie in 2007, combining for an average of .249, with 18 RBI, 8 doubles, and 2 triples. He was also the subject of a 2006 Grand Rapids Press article.

Recently, The Surge was able to get in touch with Pedro, where we were able to ask him some questions about his time spent in West Michigan, and his thoughts on the upcoming 2008 season.

1. What have you been doing this offseason?
- Well in this offseason I've been doing a lot of things. Training a lot for the next season in 2008, working in a freight forwarder company, and taking care of my newborn baby.

2. What is your best memory from your time spent playing with the Whitecaps in 2006?
- I have a lot of good memories from the Whitecaps, and for me every one of them is special. Starting getting in the Garland's family, second, making a big list of good friends, and third, winning the championship.

3. What is the #1 area of your game that you hope to improve upon for the 2008 season?
- This offseason I've been working more with my speed, and working to improve a little bit more of power.

4. What is your favorite thing about Spring Training?
- Well I think seeing each other again is special. Also, you are able to learn a lot from the Major Leaguers.

5. Where do you hope to play in 2008?
- I want to start in Double A (Erie Seawolves).

6. What is your favorite position to play?
- My favorite position is the outfield. It doesn't matter where in the outfield, anywhere in the outfield is my favorite.
