Q&A With Scott Sizemore

Scott Sizemore is a prospect that many have high hopes for. He consistently ranks in Detroit Tiger top-ten prospect lists. This second baseman from Virginia Commonwealth turned in a quality 2007 season with the Whitecaps, and was even more impressive in the Arizona Fall League (AFL).

In 125 games for the 'Caps, Sizemore batted .265, with 33 doubles, 4 home runs, and 48 RBI. Scott played in 21 games for the Peoria Saguaros, of the AFL, where he had a .352 batting average, hitting 6 doubles, 2 homers, and 18 RBI.

Here at The Surge, we were lucky enough to get a few minutes of Scott's time, to ask him some questions on memories from the Whitecaps, the offseason, and his thoughts on dealing with some of the pressure of being on the 'baseball radar' of many.

Without any further delay, The Surge would like to present a question and answer with Scott Sizemore:

1. You certainly had a very busy year in 2007, going from a Midwest League championship to a productive Arizona Fall League. How much time, if any, did you eventually take for yourself, away from baseball, to just relax and recharge, once it was all said and done?
-Well there wasnt very much time at all. I guess only about a week, because I had to report to Instructional League in Lakeland before I went out to Arizona.

2. Over the past two years your name has kept coming up in discussions of top prospects within the Detroit Tigers farm system. Do you ever feel pressure trying to live up to some of the expectations that people have for your baseball career?
- I dont really think of it as pressure that other people are putting on me, but rather the pressure that I put on myself. I know I am harder on myself then anyone else could be. So I know if I am pleased with the way I am playing, then I would assume that others would be positive with my efforts too.

3. What is your best baseball memory from 2007?
- I'd have to say winning the Midwest League title. It was such a long and trying year for me personally. From my really poor start, to getting back to playing like I should, the title was just the cherry on top of a great year.

4. If you had to pick one teammate from the 2007 Whitecaps that made a lasting impression on you, who would it be?
- I'd have to say Ryan Strieby. We were roommates on the road and we both struggled at different times of the year. But we kind of picked each other up and managed to get it together when it counted most.

5. What was your favorite part of playing in West Michigan in 2007?
- The atmosphere for sure. When you get as many fans as they do, it makes it easy to show up to the park every day.

6. What is the #1 think you are looking to improve upon in Spring Training this year?
- I don't really have one thing particular thing. I want to get better at every aspect of my game and become someone that the big club thinks could help them in the future.

7. What are you most looking forward to in the 2008 season?
- Getting back on the field and being with a group of guys that have that common goal... to win.

Not even one question about Scott's role-switch to shortstop in the Fall League??

We asked what we asked. Keep in mind that a position switch in Fall League isn't always a 100% sign of a permanent move.
