Whitecaps 5 - Silver Hawks 4

The West Michigan Whitecaps won their third straight game on Saturday, beating the South Bend Silver Hawks 5-4.

South Bend struck first in the bottom of the second inning, scoring one run. The Whitecaps tied it up in the fourth inning when Kyle Peter hit an infield single and brought Joe Tucker home from third. Justin Henry led off the fifth inning with a single, and then stole two bases. Ronnie Bourquin followed with an RBI double bringing home Henry. Later on in the inning Marc McBratney doubled and brought home Bourquin from second. Joe Tucker followed with an RBI single bringing home McBratney. However, the 'Caps pitching couldn't hold the lead. The Silver Hawks tied the game when they scored three runs in the sixth inning. West Michigan reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning when Marc McBratney's single brought home Casper Wells from second base.

Lefty pitcher Manny Miguelez made the start for the Whitecaps. He pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed 1 hit, 1 earned run, walked 4, and struck out 3 batters. He didn't figure in the decision. Andrew Hess pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed 2 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 1 and allowed a solo homer. Santo Mieses pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed 1 hit, walked 2, threw 2 wild pitches, hit a batter. He was the winning pitcher. Rudy Darrow pitched one inning. Noah Krol made his Midwest League debut in the bottom of the ninth, and picked up his first save of the season.

The Whitecaps will finish their series with the Silver Hawks tomorrow in South Bend. Game time is 1:30pm eastern.
